Meet Jane Austen
Jane came to live with us in May of 2013 and we officially adopted her June 17th, 2013 from from Loki Grrl Rescue. After Missy died we were not going to get another dog. Then one day someone sent me a link to Loki Grrl. There I saw Jane. I did not say anything to anyone knowing that with her being a Beagle/Catahoula Leopard hound mix she would never make it on our farm. She would want to eat all the birds and never get along with the piggies. A couple of days later Raven, came to me and said I found this dog that I think may work for us. She said, "It has one blue eye and one brown" I knew right away it was the same dog I saw. I then told her, that the breed of dog would never work. So a couple of days later we went to Tractor Supply for supplies for the farm. When we pulled in we parked right next to Loki Grrl Rescue's car. I said "Is God trying to tell us something?" Then as we headed to the front door of the store there was Jane first in line for a meet and greet for the rescue. So I could no longer ignore the signs. We set up a time for Jane to come with her foster mom to see how she would do on the farm. I was sure she would fail as soon as she saw the chickens. However, when they came out, they stayed for 3 hours and Jane was a saint. Needless to say she was more than a perfect fit and God knew exactly what he was doing. Once again taking something that makes no sense and make it make perfect sense.
I have never met a living thing that loves me so much. Jane would die for me. We don't leash her and she follows me everywhere I go. Faithfully doing chores with us, walking to the river, and not only does she not harm any of the other animals, but if the birds fight with each other she will break them up and herd one away! We have never done any training with her and she just fits in like she was always here from the beginning. Here is her story before she came to us. I will warn you it is a sad one, but when you meet her and see her smile (yes she does smile) you will know that is all behind her. Jane was rescued from a hoarding-type situation with her 5 puppies and 3 other adult dogs. When they arrived at the house, they found that Jane's puppies had gotten into some pills. With no time to spare, they rushed everyone to the vet for emergency care. Despite their best efforts (and the best efforts of the wonderful vet team at LVAH), they lost 4 of the 5 puppies. |

Jane was devastated when they left the vet office without her babies. Coupled with the stress of being separated from her home and her two sisters, her first weeks in rescue were difficult and they were concerned about her ability to adjust. She remained in her first foster home for 3 months. Then one of the other dogs that were being fostered with Jane became aggressive towards her and she had to be moved to another foster home. That is where she met Sherri, her new foster mom. Sherri is a born again Christian and did not understand why Jane, even though she was very timid, was not being adopted and why so many months had gone by and no one inquired about her. So after having her for only 5 days, Sherri decided to get her groomed and take her to the Tractor Supply event. Sherri, prayed that God would send the perfect new owner for her, not knowing that God had already been preparing us for her. So, she went to the event and the rest is history!
Jane loves to help turn the horses out. She will follow right alongside going back and forth from the pasture to barn to get another horse. She also loves to help scoop poop in the fields.
