Journey
Tennessee Walker Red Roan Mare Estimated DOB: 1991 Arrival: January 31, 2016 Journey is shy but is coming around and everyone loves her. She is slowly gaining trust and we look forward to see how she will blossom once she fully realizes she really is safe. Journey was one of the horses that was saved directly from the kill pens located in PA. Journey was bought at auction by Bruce Rotz to ship over the border to slaughter. These kill pen buyers select random horses each week that were meant for slaughter and offer them for sale at a higher price and then the horse will not go to slaughter. Any horse that is not paid for by the end of the week will be loaded with the other horses on a truck headed to slaughter in Mexico and Canada. This is how Journey got her name. Raven and I were unloading bedding getting ready for the 2 new rescues here at Purpose Farm. We were talking about how #6786 (Journey's meat number) may have ended up at the sale and what a shame that she had to travel from Upstate NY to PA and now back to Upstate NY. With the condition that she is in that must have been hard. I said to Raven," Sometimes we have to go through in order to get to the other side. And for #6786 that is just part of her journey." Raven immediately said," That's her name, Journey!" I could not have picked a better name for her. We will never know what her full journey was, we just know the last part of her Journey will be full of Love.
